Pigeons
Racing Pigeons:
The hobby of flying racing pigeons goes back many centuries. These thoroughbreds of the sky have been used to carry messages as far back as the Roman Empire. Racing pigeons have been used in all wars and are used by the military today. The racing of pigeons is very popular all over the world and clubs race every weekend from spring to fall. Many people keep pigeons to compete against other birds, but many are kept because they are easy to keep, fun to breed and a joy to watch fly around the loft and return on their own free will.

Lake Cumberland Game Birds now offers quality racing homers. We guarantee racing quality, healthy birds that will give you years of pleasure. We offer no particular strain nor do we offer a pedigree, what we do offer are birds from winning lofts. We sell mature birds that will be able to mate and breed youngsters that will always return to your loft. One pair will raise twelve young per breeding season. The advantage of buying pairs is that you have the pleasure of raising your own young; the disadvantage of buying breeders is that you can never release them as they will most likely try to return to where they were born.

Many fanciers decide to buy young birds and this means that the young birds which are just a few weeks old, will always return to the first place they are released from. Young birds are shipped when they are just weaned and able to eat and drink on their own. Young birds are not sold as mated pairs as they are too young, when shipped to know what sex the are.

All birds shipped will be vaccinated against PMV and paratyphoid. They will also be treated for worms and canker. If you have just started in pigeon keeping, we strongly suggest you purchase a beginners book such as "Pigeons; A Complete Pet Owners Manual."

We also have white racing homers. The white racing homers are raised to supply the needs of those who are in or plan to begin a white dove release business. White doves, which are really white racing homers, are released at weddings, funerals and special events. It is people earning extra income as well as enjoying a great hobby. White racing homers, when trained properly will return from about 100 miles, but are not racing quality which are expected to race home from 300 to 500 miles. If you are in, or considering starting a white bird release business, we would suggest you consider the book, "White Pigeons, The Color of Money"
Remember, pigeons are a flocking bird and do best in flocks of 16 or more.

Note: The prices for pigeons do not include a postal approved shipping box or the express mail cost. We will try to fill your color request and ask for a first and second choice. Please call for shipping cost. We will ship what is available if no color choice is requested.
